Weight Loss Success Requires Discipline

Weight loss is a journey for everyone and as much as we all would like to have the magic pill and enjoy overnight success, weight loss requires discipline and change. As Chris Powell, Trainer / Transformation Specialist on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition explains, those in search of weight loss success will have some hurdles to jump and obstacles to overcome.

The Road to Transformation: 7 Steps to a Healthy Weight Loss Journey

Weight LossPeople often ask me what the road to transformation looks like. They have imagined this vision of a yellow brick road leading off into the sunset.

In reality, they should be picturing a route full of twists and turns, hills and valleys, detours, and changes in speed (or pounds lost) that may even cause them to have to make a u-turn or two as they navigate the road to their weight loss goals.

As with any journey, if you start with an honest desire, create a plan and are prepared, you'll be able to overcome obstacles, stay on course, and successfully reach your destination.

Before you embark of this journey, it is important to take a self-inventory of why you desire to do this. Remember, you never HAVE to lose the weight, so don't kid yourself by saying that it is something that you need to do. Losing weight is something that you WANT to do. Never forget that. When you are on your 29th minute on the treadmill and your body wants to stop, remind yourself how much you want to be there! Think about the outcome and how bad you desire it.

Once you have committed to the journey, it is important to create a plan and have realistic expectations of the obstacles ahead. The obstacles are our triggers: the people and events that elicit a strong emotional reaction within us. They can range from something as simple as sitting on the couch and watching your favorite TV show, to stress at work, to an argument with your mother-in-law.

When we encounter triggers, emotions come flooding in and we are driven to turn to our addictions. However, we can use powerful tactics to navigate around the triggers and stay on course! Put these effective tactics in your arsenal of tools to navigate your way to success.

Emotional triggers

  • STOP! Self inventory. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Feel your heartbeat.
  • Ask yourself if you are really, truly hungry.
  • Are you happy? Sad? Depressed? Anxious?

Random food cravings

  • Create an environment for success (first step). No junk food in the house.
  • Avoidance is necessary.
  • Find good substitutions for your favorites (eat this, not that).
  • Portion-controlled trigger food (not highly recommended).

Hitting the drive-thru

  • Place a motivational picture on the dashboard.
  • Take an alternate route home to avoid the temptation.
  • Prep and carry food with you, so you're never hungry.

Eating out successfully (when you must!)

  • Order from the appetizers only (smaller portions).
  • Order only baked, steamed, grilled, or boiled entrees.
  • Always ask for sauce and dressings on the side.
  • Split your entrée with your dining partner.
  • Have the waiter bring half of your entree already boxed to go so it never touches your plate.
  • Avoid any bread, chips, etc. before the meal.

Make the workplace work

  • Create an environment for success — stock drawers with healthy, no-cook snacks and protein sources to always have on hand.
  • Avoid the areas of the office where you feel tempted (donuts, vending machines, cafeteria, etc.).
  • Prep and pack your food to bring with you.

Avoid a social gathering sabotage

  • Eat beforehand!
  • Take a fiber supplement to feel full (a favorite Dr. Oz tip!).
  • Avoid the food area.
  • Bring your own healthy foods.
  • Grab a low/no calorie drink as soon as you get there and keep it in your hands.
  • Chew mint flavored gum the whole time.

Eating late at night

  • Create new rules for your environment, such as no food in the TV room or bedroom.
  • Brush your teeth.
  • Relax with a warm tea or flavored water (if you crave sweet).
  • Start a Passion Project that you work on at night.

Zeal for Life – Sharing is Caring and Good Business

How I found Zeal for Life

Zeal For LifeZeal for Life is an amazing natural nutritional product that's taking America by storm so chances are if you haven't heard about Zeal for Life by now you will in the near future. I was introduced to the Zeal drink by a friend of mine who knew that I worked long hours and had trouble with lack of energy. He sent me a single serving sample bottle to try and immediately I felt the results and so I ordered a one-month supply of the product. It wasn't long afterwards that people started to notice a difference in me. Many became curious and some started to ask questions. They wanted to know how I was able to work such long hours and at such a steady pace and where did I get all my energy from? And, at family gatherings they noticed that I wasn't eating constantly like I had done in the past. Some said they noticed a calmness about me that they hadn't seen before. My answer to all their questions was very simple – I use the Zeal for Life product everyday.

Share the Zeal Drink and Pay it Forward

Curiosity set in about what Zeal for Life actually is and I shared it with them. We began discussing health issues and problems that each had and how the product could help them as a nutritional treatment rather than seeking out medicinal treatments. I soon began to share the Zeal drink product with everybody that I knew that had some sort of health issue and even with those that had no health issues at all. Nothing was more satisfying than sharing a product that has done wonders for me and my health so that I could help others as well.

The Zeal Drink Was the Talk of the Party

Now even more dramatic results from the Zeal for Life product have come to light as I have lost more than 22 pounds in about 14 weeks using the product. A recent holiday gathering brought this to the attention of many as no one has seen me for about two and a half months so many were stunned as the result of my 22 pound weight loss. These are people were absolutely amazed and even more so when they found out the Zeal for Life isn't even a weight-loss product. It's been three days since the party of my phone still hasn't stopped ringing and orders are still coming in from people I've never even met as a result of people talking about my great results with the Zeal for Life product.

Zeal for Life is a Caring Business

Zeal for Life is an all natural nutritional product to give your body all of the good and none of the bad. The key ingredient is stabilized rice bran. Sharing the product with those people that I know and love is a good thing as I am giving them something that is actually beneficial for them. Improved Sexual Function

Here's a motivating reason to get moving: regular physical activity can increase blood flow in a way that has a direct affect on sexual function, explains HuffPost blogger David Katz, M.D., founding director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center At Griffin Hospital.

In fact, a recent study published by Emory University researchers in the Journal of Sexual Medicine identified a link between physical activity and erectile function among men between the ages of 18 and 40.

"The men in our study who exercised more seemed to experience a protective benefit against erectile dysfunction," study co-author Wayland Hsiao, assistant professor of urology at Emory School of Medicine, said in a statement. "We hope that early screening for ED may be a gateway issue to help motivate young men to live healthily on a consistent basis so that they can possibly avoid health issues associated with a sedentary lifestyle, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We see this as just the beginning."

Changes In Gene Expression

In the burgeoning field of epigenetics, scientists are discovering how environmental factors, including diet, stress and toxins, can change the way our genes are expressed, essentially turning certain genes on or off, and affecting which are passed down from generation to generation.

One factor that can play a role? Exercise. Two recent studies have illustrated just how regular physical activity can affect gene expression.

The first study, conducted by Swedish researchers illustrated how inactive young adults demonstrated an immediate shift in their muscle cells' genetic material after just a few minutes on a stationary bicycle, HuffPost reported when the findings were released.

The second study, conducted by researchers from the Harvard School Of Public Health, found that walking an hour a day can slash genetic tendencies toward obesity. We'll walk to that!

Zeal for Life – Weight Loss – Easy With Group Fitness

Zeal for Life – Weight Management Program users know that some activity is needed to increase metabolism and accelerate weight loss. The increased activity combined with a lowered caloric intake and nourishment of the body with the Zeal for Life nutritional supplement can yield quick results. However, even with the Zeal for Life products and reduced caloric intake a body has a sedentary body tends to gain the weight back.  Chad Deets tells his weight loss success story in the Huffington Post whereby his light at the end of the tunnel is group fitness classes.

Weight Loss Success: Chad Deets Discovered Group Fitness Classes And Lost 200 Pounds

Name: Chad Deets

Age: 27

Height: 6'6"

Before Weight: 418 pounds

How I Gained It:

Zeal for LifeFood was basically my friend. During elementary school I was "that kid" who everyone liked to tease. That never really changed all through high school. I turned to food as a source of comfort and a way to protect myself from everyone. No one messes with you, no matter how dorky you are, when you're the tallest and the widest kid in class. On top of it I was not active because I was overweight and couldn't really do anything. It was not uncommon for me to eat four cheeseburgers and fries, or an entire pizza, or four tacos and two burritos in a single sitting. It was a very vicious, self-fulfilling cycle!

Breaking Point:

I didn't really have one of those moments you see on talk shows where I was suddenly inspired to change. After graduating from high school, I realized that the social hierarchy that exists is a load of crap. I began realizing that all the reasons I had gained the weight and stayed fat didn't exist anymore and that I did not need to continue to live my life so burdened. I wasn't able to do a lot of really basic things, like run, or sit on airplanes, or walk into a store and buy clothes off the rack — and let me tell you, big and tall stores are ridiculously expensive!

How I Lost It:

The most important thing I did first was to heal a lot of what was going on inside me. I put some of my issues to rest and made a list of reasons why I should change. I made changes to my eating habits, reducing my portions drastically and cutting back to one cheat meal a week. I did not do anything drastic or any crazy diets, it was just a matter of smarter choices. I eat lots of meals incorporating fresh vegetables. I love well-seasoned grilled chicken, smashed cauliflower and asparagus. I make meatloaf and homemade pizza, which is great because I can choose the quality and quantity of the ingredients. Eating healthy to me means all things in moderation, rather than restriction.

I always tell friends that I budget calories better than money. When I want that piece of cake, I make sure I give up something else during the day or do extra cardio during the week to help offset it. And that junk food? I still order one taco and one burrito, or one cheeseburger — on occasion!

As far as workouts, I lost the first 80 pounds via workout DVDs and treadmills at the gym. I then switched up the DVDs and added the stairmaster and lost another 80. For my last 40 (and what's exclusively kept the weight off for over three years) I discovered Les Mills' group fitness classes (specifically BodyAttack, BodyCombat and BodyPump). I became a "groupie" very quickly and eventually became an instructor. It's been so very rewarding to give back, and go from couch potato to teaching five to seven classes a week, all while making some amazing friends and connections all over the world. Through this whole challenge, I have learned so much about myself and that people are capable of so much more then they think. Just show up, give your best effort and you will get there!

Group activity to keep you motivated and moving can be very rewarding physically, emotionally, socially and mentally as well.  Chad found that proper portion control and exercise in a group environment helped him to lose weight while gaining self esteem and confidence.  Nutrition is also important in achieving your weight loss goals. Probiotics – Zeal for Life Can Boost Immune System

Probiotics and digestive health seem to be all the rage these days. Now it has been discovered that probiotics boost the immune system. Probiotics, and whole foods like Zeal for Life, an all natural whole food nutritional supplement uses the power of Stabilized rice bran and 41 of the planets best super foods and nutrients to help boost your immune system as well.  As a natural whole food Zurvita's Zeal for Life also helps with digestive health and regularity much like popular Probiotics. In the article below, Meredith Melnick of the Huffington Post informs Zeal for Life users how probiotics aide with a common gastrointestinal problem known as AAD.

Probiotic Remedies: 6 Ways Live Active Bacteria Can Boost Your Health

ProbioticsFor most people, the mention of probiotics conjures up images of yogurt. But don’t dismiss the microbes as a marketing gimmick or food fad. The latest probiotic research suggests that live-active cultures of these friendly bacteria can help to prevent and treat a wide variety of ailments.

"There is an increasing interest in probiotic interventions," wrote the authors of one of the most recent studies, a meta-analysis of previous research in last week’s issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Those researchers found that probiotics were particularly useful against a common gastrointestinal problem: antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD).

But studies show that probiotics can help with a great deal more — warding off infection and boosting immune systems, as well as helping to improve women’s health and perhaps even fighting obesity.

The word "probiotic" is a compound of two Greek words: "pro," to signify promotion of and "biotic," which means life. Their very definition is something that affirms life and health. That's true even by modern standards: the World Health Organization defines a probiotic as any living microorganism that has a health benefit when ingested. Similarly, the USDA defines a probiotic as "any viable microbial dietary supplement that beneficially affects the host."

That doesn't mean that all probiotics, or probiotic-containing foods are created equal. So what should you look for? "There is a lot of 'noise' in this space as more and more 'food products' are coming out with Probiotics," Dr. Shekhar K. Challa, a gastroenterologist and the author of Probiotics For Dummies tells The Huffington Post. "Unfortunately it is impossible to quantitate the CFU's of probiotics in most food products."

CFUs — or colony-forming units — is a microbiological term that describes the density of viable bacteria in a product. In other words, the CFU tells you how rich in probiotics a food actually is — and how much will be available to your body. While labels don't typically have CFUs, Challa recommends choosing plain over flavored yogurt and looking for unpasteurized Kefir and Sauerkraut to up the probiotic count in the food you eat. He also recommends unpasteurized versions of miso, pickles, tempeh, kimchi and kombucha tea.

So what can probiotics help you with? Read on:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/15/probiotic-remedies_n_1507166.html?ref=healthy-living

While probiotics can help with the AAD issues, Zeal for Life users can expect a healthier and more regular digestive system as Zeal for Life has been shown to help with constipation and irregularity.
