Follow These Tips For Maintaining Optimal Nutrition In Your Diet

Many people have a very vague idea of what is in the foods they eat. Nutrition tends to be complicated; certain advice contradicts other advice. The tips below will help you learn more about nutrition.

TIP! Create a mealtime schedule to help you eat healthy. Having a regular schedule not only keeps your metabolism high, it also makes it easy for you to recognize when you are really hungry.

Always select dark chocolate instead of white or milk chocolate. Dark chocolate contains chemicals called flavonoids that are known to keep blood pressure under control. The antioxidants dark chocolate contains works to improve your cholesterol. Just make sure your chocolate has a minimum of 70% cocoa in order to get the most nutritional value. Don’t overdo it with the chocolate as it still contains a lot of calories.

Eating a large quantity of vegetables and fruit each day is sure to boost your nutrition values. To ensure you receive the recommended daily allowance of fruit and vegetables, eat at least 9 servings. That sounds excessive, but it can be done with some creative thinking. Try drinking some fresh juice or adding some tomato sauce on your pasta.

TIP! If you want to make sure that you feel the best during the day, take care to make your meal plan reflect that. Eating too much is unhealthy.

It is OK to take yourself out to eat sometime, but you can still manage the calories and fat you take in while you are there. Restaurants are known for serving large portions, so only eat half your serving and take the other half home.

Reduce the amount of sugars and fats that you consume on a daily basis. These things are the things your body wants, but they are terrible for it. They never fill you up, and they only cause health concerns. If you have a sugar craving, go with fruit instead. If you crave fats and salts, put spices in your food for added taste.

TIP! Add a few new recipes each week that are healthier than your current dishes. You may be surprised to learn that you can save money and avoid chemicals by creating protein bars with a simple recipe of peanut butter, milk and protein powder.

It is smart to eat a variety of protein on a weekly basis. Focus on fish, lean meats and skinless poultry. Eat a lot of eggs as well. Having an egg everyday is a good source of protein. Have one day without meat every week. Use seeds, peanut butter, peas, or beans instead.

Don’t try to change everything in your life at the same time. Instead, create a list of every single thing you would like to eventually change. Go through this list and aim to conquer a single item at a time. Start with small goals and work your way up to the big ones.

Dairy Products

Be careful when buying dairy products. Dairy products can provide important nutrients, such as vitamin D, protein and calcium, but be sure to use low-fat and fat-free products. Milk should be skim or low-fat to reduce calories without sacrificing nutrients. If you have lactose intolerance, try soy or lactose-free milk. Many kinds of cheese have large amounts of saturated fat, so try consuming the reduced-fat varieties.

TIP! Eat more slowly. If you eat slower, this will allow you to feel full quicker.

It is a good idea to learn new recipes regularly. It keeps your dishes interesting, and you may discover healthy dishes you really enjoy. The challenge and novelty of mastering new dishes encourages healthy variety and keeps a diet from becoming repetitive and unappealing. By doing this, eating a healthy diet will be more exciting rather than being a dull chore.

Diabetics have many nutritional challenges. These needs can partially be met by eating at regular intervals to keep blood sugar levels stable. They must eat plenty of low-fat dairy, whole grain, and fresh produce. For the best results, meals should be eaten at the same scheduled times every day.

Artificial Sweeteners

Try reducing sugar and using artificial sweeteners. An excess of sugar can cause health issues ranging from diabetes to cardiac concerns. Therefore, you should use artificial sweeteners like Stevia or Splenda instead. The difference will be unnoticeable.

TIP! Though you may be working to reduce your cholesterol level and improve your nutrition, you do not need to give up flavor. If you are a fan of Italian food, you don’t have to give up your beloved lasagna if you make a couple of easy changes.

Remembering to balance your uncooked and cooked foods is important to balance your diet. Try to make one third of the foods you consume uncooked. Doing this will guarantee you will get all of your vitamins and they are not cooked out. Fruits and vegetables will do that easily.

If nutrition is of interest to you, it is possible to find a wide range of books, magazines and online resources to help increase your knowledge base. A great place to start is to learn what types of foods promote health and which types hurt it. Everyone needs a little more nutritional food choices in their life.

Having A Hard Time Dropping Weight? Let These Tips Help You

Losing weight can be very easy if you have the right knowledge about how to go about it. As with anything, knowledge is power, and successful weight loss is a result of educating yourself on what you need to do. The below article provides many weight loss tips that will assist you on your journey.

TIP! A great weight loss tip is to regularly have sex. Sex lowers your cravings for bad types of food.

Doing your cardiovascular exercise when you first wake up in the morning and before you eat is a great way to help yourself lose weight. It’s been shown that cardio on an empty stomach can actually burn a lot more calories than when performed after a meal.

Set realistic weight loss and fitness goals. You can’t lose 100 pounds in just two days, for example. If you come up with a goal you can reach, you can motivate yourself time and time again. Setting yourself up to fail is not a good idea. A realistic loss per week would be between one and a half and two pounds.

Diet Pills

Speak with your physician before you take diet pills. If you have heart problems or are taking prescription medications, many diet pills may actually cause you significant harm. It is so important for you to talk with your doctor to get his approval before you start taking any kind of pills.

TIP! When dieting, remove milk products to see if that helps you lose weight. Many individuals have slight dairy allergies that are undiagnosed.

Drinking an increased amount of water can give you a quick way to lose 5 pounds. When you drink more water, you will remain fuller longer, and it helps you have less trouble with water bloat. Drink a minimum of eight glasses of water per day. You won’t lose a lot of fat, but it is a great way to lose weight fast.

Cook large meals on the weekend and freeze them in smaller portions. Having healthy meals ready to reheat keeps you from making unhealthy food choices like ordering pizza or picking up fast food. Cooking in bulk also saves you money, since you can purchase fresh ingredients and use them immediately. By doing this, you can ensure that these ingredients do not spoil before you have a chance to use them.

TIP! Team up with someone else so you both stick to a fitness program. When you are joined by a like-minded friend with similar goals, you will both benefit inside greater success.

You should learn to read labels on foods. Even though a food may be fat-free, it may not be entirely healthy. Fat-free foods may still be high in sugar and calories, and should be avoided. This is why you should always read over the label so that you completely understand the ingredients in your food.

Make sure to stay focused on the positive efforts you can make for weight loss, not the negatives. Use positive affirmations about your goals to help maintain a positive attitude about your weight-loss program. When you tell yourself something, it is likely to come true after a while.

TIP! If you are trying to lose weight, it’s a good idea to purchase clothes at discount and thrift stores. As you lose weight you can sell the clothes you have outgrown and purchase more in a smaller size.

You may already know salmon is healthy for losing weight, but fish can be difficult for an inexperienced cook. Canned salmon is a great product for those who are unaccustomed to preparing fresh salmon but want to enjoy the benefits of it. This is a very easy and inexpensive alternative.

Chili Peppers

TIP! One easy way to slim down is to step outside and take a nice long hike. As well as getting closer to nature, the number of calories you will burn are significant.

Chili pepper sauce is a great additive for losing weight. Believe it or not, chili peppers can give your metabolism a boost and provide you with more energy, which leads to you burning more calories. Use chili peppers on eggs, chicken, and other proteins. This is arguably one of the easiest and most flavorful ways to help promote weight loss!

If you want your weight loss to continue, you need to carefully monitor portion sizes. Generally, the meat you eat should be about 3 ounces, or the size of your hand’s palm. Those who pay attention to what they eat are more likely to be successful in losing weight.

TIP! Weight-loss efforts benefit from a higher level of overall activity. An easy way to burn some extra calories is by not sitting down throughout the day.

Dropping weight really requires you have some knowledge. If you are aware of the proper method of weight loss, then losing weight isn’t as hard as lots of people claim it is. Apply what you’ve learned from this article to help you get started on your weight loss journey.

Try This Advice To Help Increase Your Nutrition

Without the daily allowance of nutrients, food groups and vitamins recommended, it is not possible to have peak performance on a regular basis. The good news is the suggestions from this article provide you valuable nutrition advice to feel and look your best at work, home or school.

TIP! Reduce ground meat in recipes and eat lots of mushrooms. Research indicates that mushrooms are similar to meat in their ability to satisfy the palate.

Drink less alcohol and get more sleep. These factors can actually make your face oilier and make your pores much bigger. When your pores are larger, infection and diet occurs, making pimples develop. Therefore, you need to get at least seven hours of sleep each night, and only drink a maximum of a single glass of alcohol every day.

You should eliminate sugar from your daily diet and substitute artificial sweeteners. A diet high in sugar can cause diabetes and other health concerns. Try using artificial sweeteners like Stevia or Splenda. You won’t be able to tell the difference.

TIP! To decrease your chances of depression in a natural way, eat foods which have Vitamin B6. Depression is often caused by an imbalance in serotonin, and vitamin B6 regulates serotonin levels.

Making your own smoothies is a fun, simple way to prepare a tasty treat. Delicious smoothies can also be nutritious. Use a bit of flax seed oil with Omega-3 in a smoothie or some cocoa powder with antioxidants. Both of these extras will enhance both the flavor and the nutrition of your smoothie. Your taste buds and immune system will both thank you.

Kids need to eat well because they are growing. Also, by teaching good nutrition habits at a young age, your children will eat healthier throughout their adult life. Reduce the sugar and starch that they consume, as this can be detrimental to the body.

TIP! Focus on baked foods, not fried. Baked foods are healthier, as they contain less calories, fat and carbohydrates.

To maximize the impact of the healthy changes you are making, make sure that you get enough sleep. As you sleep, the body restores the health of your muscles, and the nutrients you have taken in helps the body function.

Feel Hungry

TIP! When you are trying a new diet, you can still eat foods that are very tasty. You can enjoy all of your favorites, including lasagna, with a healthful adjustment or two.

Create a mealtime schedule to help you eat healthy. Your body will adjust to these set times and feel hungry when they approach. This makes it much less likely that you’ll feel hungry without a healthy food option to satisfy it.

Make foods with plenty of vitamins A and C a key part of your diet. Vitamin C and A are crucial to nutrition since they are antioxidants. The role of antioxidants is to neutralize harmful free radicals that increase the risk of disease. Vegetables that are orange or dark green contain Vitamin A, as do many products produced by animals. Vitamin C is found in a lot of vegetables and fruits, such as oranges and broccoli.

Healthy Fats

Try to maximize the healthy fats that you consume each day. Saturated and transfats should be avoided at all costs. You should always try to avoid these. Nuts, seeds, fish and olive oil all contain healthy fats that we should eat every day to stay healthy.

TIP! Focus on fruit and vegetables, then protein and finally, carbs. Carbs are an important part of your daily diet, but many people overeat them.

Use the plate method to separate your portions. Dividing each meal into portions makes it a lot easier to see which food groups you’re eating and to make sure that you keep your diet balanced. Your plate should contain half vegetables, a quarter of carbohydrates and another quarter of lean protein. You can easily get nutrition using this balance.

Keep your serotonin levels high by regularly engaging in whole grain products, bananas or baked potatoes. You will also feel more full, since the fiber content is very high. Junk food will surely give you a sugar rush, but you will soon crash. Avoid junk food, choose healthy foods and you will see a difference.

TIP! Don’t think that taking tons of vitamin supplements makes you healthier. Supplements should serve as complements to a solid diet.

As a general nutrition tip that definitely relates well to weight loss, it is important that you stay away from not only the “junk food” options out there but also any food that’s not good for you. This includes any fried and/or oily foods, processed foods, and foods that are high in simple carbs like starch, flour or sugar.

If you wish to have great nutrition, eat foods that are the closest to how they were naturally. Fresh, unprocessed food is the best way to ensure that you meet all of your body’s nutritional needs while reducing the amount of unwanted fat and chemicals in your diet.

TIP! For better health, bring your own lunch to school or work. Packing your own lunch puts you in control of exactly what you are eating.

If you reference these tips when you prepare meals, you’ll be amazed at how much healthier your meals become without sacrificing taste. If you are serious about becoming more healthy, you’re already off to a good start. You may be surprised to find out just how great you look and feel!

Advice For Maintaining A Lifestyle With Proper Fitness

It doesn’t matter how fit you want to get, getting in shape is always a positive thing to do in one’s life. The only problem people have with getting into shape is that they don’t know how to.

TIP! When working out your abs do not only do crunches. It has been shown that for every 250,000 crunches, only 1 pound of fat is burned.

By adding variety to one’s routine, the body will receive maximum benefits. Someone who typically runs daily should switch things up and go with aerobics, using a jump rope or strength training the next day. You will have more of a workout because you are not running on a flat surface. The body can only keep on improving when it is constantly challenged with new and different routines.

Do not fret. Also try biking for a fitness alternative. Biking to work is inexpensive, enjoyable and a great fitness booster that almost anyone can do. If you are close to your workplace, your half-hour bicycle commute can burn up calories both to and from work.

TIP! One way to make sure you get the most from a personal trainer is to pay him in a lump sum rather than after each session. You will be more likely to stick with it because the money is already spent.

When first starting out any fitness routine, it is best to begin slowly. Put your concentration on learning the proper form, technique and breathing. This will be the best way to advance and not get injured. If you do exercises incorrectly, you could injure yourself. and your goals will be harder to achieve.

If you are aiming to become a better putter you should aim to hit the hole 17 inches past it. This area has very few footprints, so the grass is higher than the rest of the green. This area will have thicker grass blades and will cause your ball to slow down.

TIP! Lifting weights can help you run. Runners don’t typically think of weight training as a way to improve their running, but it can! Studies show that runners who also lift weights regularly can run much further and faster, with becoming as tired.

Get workout clothes in neutral colors that can all be washed together, and keep the dirty items together in the same laundry hamper. By doing this, all your clothing will be interchangeable, and you can get ready quickly. In the same way, you will be able to place all your dirty clothes in one basket and you will be able to clean it all in one load.

Stretching is really important to do before you engage in a strenuous workout. This helps to expand your muscles, so that they can grow and remain healthy for as long as possible. It is very painful to have tightness in your muscles. Taking time to stretch will help you to reduce injury and feel better during your workout.

Lose Weight

If you want to lose weight, great, do it! Wanting to become physically fit is an admirable goal. You should only do these things for your own sake and not because others want you to look a certain way. Trying to lose weight or get fit to make someone else happy is doomed to fail. Do it for yourself, and succeed!

TIP! Take breaks throughout the day if you want to prevent deep vein thrombosis. Get up from the desk and walk for at least every 20 minutes.

To reduce injury risk, make sure you walk properly. Walk up straight and draw your shoulders back. Let your elbows hold a comfortable 90-degree angle. Have your front arm and front foot opposite each other. Let your heel hit the ground and the rest of your food roll when you step.

When you are doing repetitious exercises that require you to count how many you’re doing, start at the number you want to achieve and count backwards. You will be able to have an idea of what you have to do and stay motivated at doing it.

TIP! Wear the right shoes when you work out. Shoes that are specifically designed for the workouts you do will help lessen the risk of painful and frustrating injuries.

Get fit in the comfort of your own home. There are many exercises that can be done without leaving the house including crunches, push-ups and squats. You can do weight training at home with dumbbells or resistance training with elastic bands. If you want to work on your cardio, try a jump rope, a treadmill or an exercise bike.

When working out, it is crucial that you wear shoes that fit properly. Aim to shop for workout shoes in the evening because your feet are larger at this time. There should be half an inch between your big toe and the end of the shoe. It should be possible to move your toes.

TIP! For faster muscle tissue repair from a hard work out, try working those same muscle groups the next day. This way, more blood reaches the muscles so they are able to heal and repair themselves faster.

After reading through the contents of this article, you should be better equipped to begin working towards your goal of getting physically fit. If you stick with your routine and stay motivated, you’re sure to make progress. You will see some great things in no time at all.

Committed to Weight Loss – Woman Sheds 190 Pounds

Weight loss doesn't come easy for anybody. But small daily changes in routine and habits along with healthy eating helped Michele go from 387 pounds to a more manageable weight.  See Michele's story below as reported in the Huffington Post.

Weight Loss Success: Michele B. Found A Love Of Exercise And Lost 190 Pounds

Weight Loss

Name: Michele B.

Age: 38

Height: 5'6"

Before Weight: 387 pounds

How I Gained It: My story begins around late 2008. I was enduring a bad marriage and a very sick toddler with kidney and bladder problems. Food was what comforted me through these dark times, especially pasta, sweets and anything chocolate.

Breaking Point: I decided to change my life for the better and put myself on a path towards becoming healthier. It was especially important to me to do this for my children. The "new" me was about to start.

How I Lost It: I began eating better. I cut out all sugar, junk foods and foods that were fried. I focused on foods that were baked or grilled only. I increased my intake of fruits and vegetables, as well as whole-grain foods.

I also started walking three to four times a week for about 30 minutes each day. As months passed, the scale was looking better and better. I knew that if I could get down 10 or 20 pounds, I could keep going… so I did. And I kept going… and going!

I joined a gym, and walked on the treadmill, used the elliptical and did strength training twice a week. Today, I still walk outside and go to the gym. I enjoy exercising, although most of my peers try to avoid it at all costs. It’s a stress reliever, and I feel so good after I am done.

It was not easy. All I can say is that anyone trying to do it the right way should put themselves into a routine of eating better and committing to exercise on a daily basis in some form.

By the middle of last year I weighed in at 197 pounds — 190 pounds lighter than where I started a few years earlier. I had lost a whole person! After my separation, I began dating an old flame from my teen years who stuck with me and had faith in me to help me along. He has taken "progress photos" of me all along the way of this journey. I know he is proud of me.

I did run into some obstacles. Around the holidays, I lost my father, with whom I was very close. I ate whatever and without care. My weight increased about 25 pounds. I am back on the horse and determined to keep going again. What is important to realize is that time is not a factor. You cannot expect to lose it overnight, and a great deal of patience is needed. The scale will show mercy if you can wait it out and make the right choices in what you eat.

I had made short weight loss goals throughout this journey – first 30 pounds, then worry about the next 30 — but am now reaching for my ultimate goal to reach 160 pounds for my upcoming wedding next March. I know I can do it. I have come a long way from being almost 400 pounds, and I am proud of the results. For me, it’s not about being the skinniest person, I am doing this for my health. If I can do it, you can, too! All the best on your journey.

Weight Loss Success Requires Discipline

Weight loss is a journey for everyone and as much as we all would like to have the magic pill and enjoy overnight success, weight loss requires discipline and change. As Chris Powell, Trainer / Transformation Specialist on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition explains, those in search of weight loss success will have some hurdles to jump and obstacles to overcome.

The Road to Transformation: 7 Steps to a Healthy Weight Loss Journey

Weight LossPeople often ask me what the road to transformation looks like. They have imagined this vision of a yellow brick road leading off into the sunset.

In reality, they should be picturing a route full of twists and turns, hills and valleys, detours, and changes in speed (or pounds lost) that may even cause them to have to make a u-turn or two as they navigate the road to their weight loss goals.

As with any journey, if you start with an honest desire, create a plan and are prepared, you'll be able to overcome obstacles, stay on course, and successfully reach your destination.

Before you embark of this journey, it is important to take a self-inventory of why you desire to do this. Remember, you never HAVE to lose the weight, so don't kid yourself by saying that it is something that you need to do. Losing weight is something that you WANT to do. Never forget that. When you are on your 29th minute on the treadmill and your body wants to stop, remind yourself how much you want to be there! Think about the outcome and how bad you desire it.

Once you have committed to the journey, it is important to create a plan and have realistic expectations of the obstacles ahead. The obstacles are our triggers: the people and events that elicit a strong emotional reaction within us. They can range from something as simple as sitting on the couch and watching your favorite TV show, to stress at work, to an argument with your mother-in-law.

When we encounter triggers, emotions come flooding in and we are driven to turn to our addictions. However, we can use powerful tactics to navigate around the triggers and stay on course! Put these effective tactics in your arsenal of tools to navigate your way to success.

Emotional triggers

  • STOP! Self inventory. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Feel your heartbeat.
  • Ask yourself if you are really, truly hungry.
  • Are you happy? Sad? Depressed? Anxious?

Random food cravings

  • Create an environment for success (first step). No junk food in the house.
  • Avoidance is necessary.
  • Find good substitutions for your favorites (eat this, not that).
  • Portion-controlled trigger food (not highly recommended).

Hitting the drive-thru

  • Place a motivational picture on the dashboard.
  • Take an alternate route home to avoid the temptation.
  • Prep and carry food with you, so you're never hungry.

Eating out successfully (when you must!)

  • Order from the appetizers only (smaller portions).
  • Order only baked, steamed, grilled, or boiled entrees.
  • Always ask for sauce and dressings on the side.
  • Split your entrée with your dining partner.
  • Have the waiter bring half of your entree already boxed to go so it never touches your plate.
  • Avoid any bread, chips, etc. before the meal.

Make the workplace work

  • Create an environment for success — stock drawers with healthy, no-cook snacks and protein sources to always have on hand.
  • Avoid the areas of the office where you feel tempted (donuts, vending machines, cafeteria, etc.).
  • Prep and pack your food to bring with you.

Avoid a social gathering sabotage

  • Eat beforehand!
  • Take a fiber supplement to feel full (a favorite Dr. Oz tip!).
  • Avoid the food area.
  • Bring your own healthy foods.
  • Grab a low/no calorie drink as soon as you get there and keep it in your hands.
  • Chew mint flavored gum the whole time.

Eating late at night

  • Create new rules for your environment, such as no food in the TV room or bedroom.
  • Brush your teeth.
  • Relax with a warm tea or flavored water (if you crave sweet).
  • Start a Passion Project that you work on at night.

Zeal for Life – Weight Loss – Easy With Group Fitness

Zeal for Life – Weight Management Program users know that some activity is needed to increase metabolism and accelerate weight loss. The increased activity combined with a lowered caloric intake and nourishment of the body with the Zeal for Life nutritional supplement can yield quick results. However, even with the Zeal for Life products and reduced caloric intake a body has a sedentary body tends to gain the weight back.  Chad Deets tells his weight loss success story in the Huffington Post whereby his light at the end of the tunnel is group fitness classes.

Weight Loss Success: Chad Deets Discovered Group Fitness Classes And Lost 200 Pounds

Name: Chad Deets

Age: 27

Height: 6'6"

Before Weight: 418 pounds

How I Gained It:

Zeal for LifeFood was basically my friend. During elementary school I was "that kid" who everyone liked to tease. That never really changed all through high school. I turned to food as a source of comfort and a way to protect myself from everyone. No one messes with you, no matter how dorky you are, when you're the tallest and the widest kid in class. On top of it I was not active because I was overweight and couldn't really do anything. It was not uncommon for me to eat four cheeseburgers and fries, or an entire pizza, or four tacos and two burritos in a single sitting. It was a very vicious, self-fulfilling cycle!

Breaking Point:

I didn't really have one of those moments you see on talk shows where I was suddenly inspired to change. After graduating from high school, I realized that the social hierarchy that exists is a load of crap. I began realizing that all the reasons I had gained the weight and stayed fat didn't exist anymore and that I did not need to continue to live my life so burdened. I wasn't able to do a lot of really basic things, like run, or sit on airplanes, or walk into a store and buy clothes off the rack — and let me tell you, big and tall stores are ridiculously expensive!

How I Lost It:

The most important thing I did first was to heal a lot of what was going on inside me. I put some of my issues to rest and made a list of reasons why I should change. I made changes to my eating habits, reducing my portions drastically and cutting back to one cheat meal a week. I did not do anything drastic or any crazy diets, it was just a matter of smarter choices. I eat lots of meals incorporating fresh vegetables. I love well-seasoned grilled chicken, smashed cauliflower and asparagus. I make meatloaf and homemade pizza, which is great because I can choose the quality and quantity of the ingredients. Eating healthy to me means all things in moderation, rather than restriction.

I always tell friends that I budget calories better than money. When I want that piece of cake, I make sure I give up something else during the day or do extra cardio during the week to help offset it. And that junk food? I still order one taco and one burrito, or one cheeseburger — on occasion!

As far as workouts, I lost the first 80 pounds via workout DVDs and treadmills at the gym. I then switched up the DVDs and added the stairmaster and lost another 80. For my last 40 (and what's exclusively kept the weight off for over three years) I discovered Les Mills' group fitness classes (specifically BodyAttack, BodyCombat and BodyPump). I became a "groupie" very quickly and eventually became an instructor. It's been so very rewarding to give back, and go from couch potato to teaching five to seven classes a week, all while making some amazing friends and connections all over the world. Through this whole challenge, I have learned so much about myself and that people are capable of so much more then they think. Just show up, give your best effort and you will get there!

Group activity to keep you motivated and moving can be very rewarding physically, emotionally, socially and mentally as well.  Chad found that proper portion control and exercise in a group environment helped him to lose weight while gaining self esteem and confidence.  Nutrition is also important in achieving your weight loss goals. Weight Loss Success – Zeal for Life Weight Management Program

Zeal for Life Weight Management Program is a fantastic tool to help women achieve a safe and healthy weight loss. Zeal for Life Weight Management Program has proven itself especially helpful for women having a difficult time losing those extra pounds. The Zeal for Life Weight Management Program is very effective on its own however, being committed to achieving your weight loss goals through exercise and discipline is key to success and necessary to maintain your ideal weight. As you will see below, Ellen Olstein wrote an article in the Huffington Post that demonstrates how commitment and change helped her lose more than 80 pounds.

Name: Ellen Olstein

Age: 33

Height: 5'6"

Before Weight: 247 pounds

Zeal for Life Weight Management ProgramHow I Gained It: I was never a "skinny" person. As a child, I always carried a bit of extra weight on my frame compared to the other children in my neighborhood and at the small, Catholic school that I attended. I was always very conscious of the fact that I was "heavier" than the other girls, and this realization bothered me a great deal until I went to college.

During my college years, I lost a bit of weight, but not through healthy means. I ate sporadically, never got enough sleep and generally kept very odd hours. I also worked, attended classes as a full-time student and was a tireless social butterfly. Thanks to this busy lifestyle, combined with still having the metabolism of a young adult, I was able to maintain a fairly healthy weight of approximately 150 pounds throughout my college career. It wasn't until I graduated with my bachelor's degree in May 2000 and began working at my first full-time desk job that I began to pack on the pounds.

After college, I continued to eat like a college student. I never cooked or prepared homemade meals. I ate out for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I watched my waistline quickly expand past the "regular" women's clothing section and into the plus-sizes. As I continued to gain weight, I repeatedly asked myself how I could've let myself go in such a way. I would regularly beat myself up about the excessive amount of weight that I gained, but would never take the necessary steps to improve my situation and try to lose it. I continued to eat my favorite foods, which included gyros, French fries and pizza. I joined a gym located only one block away from my apartment, but I rarely went. When I would go, I would quickly become frustrated and would end my workout prematurely.

Breaking Point: My husband and I moved to Philadelphia in 2005 when I luckily found a new job in the Center City area. We had been trying to move from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia for a two-year period of time, and I decided to use the opportunity as a new beginning not only career-wise, but also health-wise.

How I Lost It: Before making the move to Philly, I immediately got rid of my car. I decided that I would take public transit everywhere that I needed to go in the city. This led to the habit of walking. At first, walking for even 30 minutes was incredibly difficult. My feet would swell, and I hated the feeling of "huffing and puffing" everywhere I had to go. However, after only a few months of walking, I found myself enjoying the act of walking anywhere that was within walking distance. After one year of this newfound habit, I bought a bike and used it as my main form of transportation for one full year. I lost 20 pounds during that year of cycling my way to-and-from work, the grocery store and anywhere else that I needed to or felt like going.

The following year, inspired by my husband, I joined a neighborhood gym and immediately fell in love with it. I discovered that the gym was a place where I could constantly challenge myself, and I continue to view it in this positive way. These days, I am constantly looking for new ways to raise the bar. I have become addicted to Spinning, and take three classes per week. I have also started taking a boot camp class once a week. On Sundays, I take my morning three-mile run into the city. Every single day, I try to do something that gets me up and moving. I still have a desk job, but I am constantly dreaming about exercise. I look forward to my regular gym trips.

Additionally, I have done a great deal of online research about diet and nutrition. I am a pescatarian, and I believe that eating a healthy, balanced diet is best. My favorite foods now include fruit, vegetables, salmon, whole grain breads, Greek yogurt and dark chocolate (in moderation, of course). I have learned that you can still love food while getting and staying healthy. I absolutely love to cook these days, and I look forward to coming home and making a wholesome meal after work. Some regular dinner staples in our house are tofu-and- veggie stir-fry dishes and vegetarian tacos and various other Mexican dishes. For breakfast, I make myself a homemade smoothie or an English muffin with sliced hard-boiled egg or peanut butter. I make sure that lunch is my biggest meal of the day and dinner is my smallest. I also count my calories using the Lose It! app for my IPhone.

Losing weight is one of the most difficult endeavors that I have ever taken on in my life. As a woman, I feel that I am constantly being judged by my weight and my looks. However, it is important to remember that I am the same loving, caring, friendly person that I was when I was 247 pounds. The difference is that I have grown mentally and emotionally throughout this journey. I love the mind/body connection that is associated with weight loss and physical exertion. For years, as far back as my childhood, I was made to feel that I was never "good enough" or worthy of respect and happiness. Pushing myself and dedicating every ounce of my being to my weight loss journey has proven those assumptions and negative thoughts wrong. My goal is to lose 15 more pounds, and I hope to one day become a certified Spin instructor. I want to inspire others to put their health first, and to communicate the message that they are also worthy of self-respect and happiness.
